Ba! A nawet poszłyście Panie o krok dalej!
Monika Grotek"
Zapraszamy do lektury!
In the city I live in
in the morning
I'm awakened by birdsong
and barking dogs
greeting each other
during their morning walk
In the city I live in
I'm awakened by raindrops
swashing on the windowsill
and swooshing water
in the pipes from the roof
In the city I live in
at noon
the sirens of ambulances
going fast to hospital
are competing with bells
of a nearby church
In the city I live in
in the afternoon
I can hear people
renovating their houses
and car engines
of those coming home
In the city I live in
in the evening
when the windows are open
I hear at my neighbours a little boy
practicing his violin
I can hear the train going far away
The day is over

“District I love”
In the district I live in
district I love
Summer mornings wake me
with the chirp of birds
talking about people
hurrying and scurrying to work
In the district I live in
district I love
Summer noon delights me
with bees buzzing in flowers
growing in pots on my terrace
with birds singing and flying high
under clouds in the sky
In the district I live in
district I love
Summer evenings say goodbye
with the shimmer of clouds in the sky
On my terrace the setting sun
says to me:
The day is done
In the district I live in
district I love
Summer nights lull me to sleep
with the rustle of trees
I fall asleep like kids
My eyes wrapped in dreamy breeze
till deep sleep covers them with heavy lids

Pink azaleas in the garden
in the field white hawthorns
delicate green of birches
and ducks under the bridge
birds singing
and a sound of streams
it`s spring in my city
I like it
Crowds in the streets
on the boulevards crush
screams in the pool
shout on the river
loud music everywhere
you’d better run away from here
it`s summer in my city
Yellow beech`s leaves
and brown oak`s
the wind’s noise
and the splash of rain
looking for mushrooms
and hiking
it`s autumn in my city
I like it
Snow, everywhere snow
sleigh bells
and children`s laughter
mulled wine taste
and singing by the fire
snowmen
and roe deer right next to the building
it`s winter in my city
I like it
Nice little city
nice people
beautiful hills
and nature
it was a happy time
in my city

The place I live in, the place I love
.... is not a city.
It is a small village in the countryside.
I love it in the morning,
When I wake up with birdsongs,
But without any swishes of cars or car horns,
Without the swash of gutters and sputters.
I love it in the afternoon,
When I finish working in the garden, when I finish all my chores,
And I can sit, look at the mountains and the sunset,
Without any sight of hurrying, scurrying and pacing people.
I love it in the evening,
When I can hear the night swoosh of my neighbours,
Making provisions for the night,
When the shimmering stars appear at the darkening sky.
I love it at night,
When all is silent around,
And the velvety air comes in through an open window,
And dreams slowly start to creep and lull me to sleep.

In the city I live in, city I love
the dawn creeps softly, barely brushing the trembling leaves,
the buzz of an awakened bee and the creak of a broomstick in the street
In the city I live in, city I love
noon is pulsating with the clatter of machines
the whir of vehicles, the explosion of children's voices during breaks
the delight of tourists, work is in progress ...
In the city I live in, city I love
the evening bursts into a cascade of bustle of people rushing home
a feast of fragrances, a clink of glass, a range of taste delights
and streams of words, conversations ...
In the city I live in, city I love
the tired sun goes to sleep,
timid stars shimmer soothingly,
the night whispers, casts spells and takes us to the world of dreams
